The President of the Panhellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants (GSEVEE) Dimitris Asimakopoulos gave a sneak preview of a GSEVEE survey in a radio interview on Vima 99.5, stating that about 8 out of 10 Greeks is unable to cover basic needs.
Specifically, the survey indicates that 79% have reduced their purchase of basic foodstuffs, while 94% of households have stopped eating out. According to the survey 93% of respondents have had their income reduced over the past three years. Mr. Asimakopoulos revealed that 50% of respondents admit to buying without a receipt for a better price, while the other 50% considers doing so.
The GSEVEE president explained that “the survival instinct forces you to behave differently to how you normally would”, while adding that “you cannot handle such phenomena with chains, handcuffs and threats”.
