The Minister of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction Panagiotis Kouroumplis has revealed that the new electoral law that is being drafted will put a limit on the terms of an MP, among others.

In an article published in the Avgi newspaper, the Interior Minister argued that the new law will aim to “break” the large electoral districts into smaller ones, and reduce the 50-seat bonus given to the first party.

Among the other ideas considered is to give a bonus to party coalitions, which could benefit many of the smaller, extra-parliamentary leftist and centrist parties and allow them to enter Parliament.

Mr. Kouroumplis noted that a public dialogue will be carried out for the new electoral law, which is expected to come into effect in 2016 and applied in the next elections, provided that it receives at least 200 votes in Parliament.
