The Minister of Finances Yanis Varoufakis told journalists on Tuesday that there are considerations for the introduction of a tax on cash withdrawals from bank accounts.

Mr. Varoufakis made the revelation when he was asked whether there were any plans to tax banking transactions. The Finance Minister was quick to add though the bank account deposits themselves will not be taxed.

Earlier in the day, the Finance Minister also claimed that the current taxation of vehicles is “anachronistic and obsolete” and noted that talks with sector representatives would begin, in order to agree upon the best possible solution. A first meeting has been planed for Friday.

With regards to taxation, he claimed that it was necessary to abolish engine size from taxation criteria, arguing that a market or production value is fairer. He avoided commenting on changes in the VAT of used cars and the imminent abolition of car withdrawal and recycle incentives.
