The former PM and PASOK leader Giorgos Papandreou appeared, as expected, at the book presentation of Marilena Koppa and stressed that he has taken many “unconventional decisions” in his life, but he never expected his presence at a book presentation to be considered as such.

Mr. Papandreou further stressed that the Greek people need “a PASOK that is in the front lines of developments, participates in coalition governments with clear positions and a progressive outlook that unites the country’s progressive forces”. The former PASOK leader then noted that PASOK “does not deserve to be the follower of any right or left-wing service”.

The announced appearance of Mr. Papandreou at the book presentation has sparked controversy amongst PASOK officers as the former party leader’s relationship with current president Evangelos Venizelos is strained.

During the book presentation, Mr. Papandreou referred to Mr. Kouvelis as his “friend” and was interrupted by a crowd of supporters. The former PM maintained that many of the reforms he had initiated were abolished by subsequent governments.

Mr. Kouvelis later took the stand and commented that his party contributed towards the stabilization in Greece and that “the center left will either be positive or it will not exist”. The former PASOK MEP and DIMAR MEP candidate Marilena Koppa explained that she doesn’t feel the need to provide explanations to anyone and that she invited “three people with whom she has tight bonds”.
