The opposition party SYRIZA held its vote on the candidates who will represent the party in the 13 districts in the upcoming elections in May, with the Left Platform objecting to a number of candidates and abstaining from the final vote.

The Left Platform specifically objected to SYRIZA’s support of the candidacy of the former PASOK and DIMAR MP Odysseas Voudouris for the Peloponnesian district, the mayor of Leipsi Benetos Spyros for the South Aegean district and journalist Theodoros Karypidis for the district of Western Macedonia.

In his speech, the Left Platform’s leader Panagiotis Lafazanis explained that “the potential selection of politicians who voted for the first bailout in parliament, paving the way for catastrophe and neo-colonization, and later voted in favor of the Samaras government’s policies, contradicts the explicit decision of SYRIZA’s founding conference and sends a wrong message to the people”.

SYRIZA MP Dimitris Papadimoulis commented on Twitter that “Democratic dialog is the rule in SYRIZA. After the collective decision though, it is time to unite in the common struggle for victory”.
