The Fire Brigade announced that it has set the major fire on the North Aegean island of Thasos under control, four days after it broke out.

Unfortunately more than 140,000 of forest and agricultural land went up in flames, with the island’s olive and honey producers having suffered a major blow.

According to the official statement, ground forces of the Fire Brigade will remain on the island for another day as a precaution. The local mayor also decided to keep schools closed on Wednesday, contrary to initial planning.
