About one million taxpayers will be in for a shock, as the tax office has decided to offset their tax returns that with the ENFIA real estate tax. In essence this means that taxpayers affected by this development will loose the right to pay the real estate tax in installments.
If a taxpayer is meant to receive a 500-euro tax return, but also has a 500-euro ENFIA bill, then the tax office will “seize” the tax returns to pay the ENFIA bill.
Should the taxpayer have a 700-euro ENFIA bill though, then the 500 euros from tax returns will automatically go towards the bill, with the taxpayer allowed to pay the remaining 200 euros in five installments.
