An emergency government meeting under Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has been called in relation to the controversial statement of Alternate Minister of Migration Policy Yannis Mouzalas regarding FYROM.

The meeting has been called amid major pressure from the Independent Greeks – SYRIZA’s coalition government partner – for the Alternate Minister to step down immediately from his post.

On Wednesday morning, the leader of the Independent Greeks Panos Kammenos told Mega Channel that he informed the Prime Minister on Mr. Mouzalas’ statement. The PM responded that he would take a stand after reviewing the controversial statement.

A spokesperson for the Independent Greeks commented on Vima 99.5 FM that the call for Mr. Mouzalas’ resignation is “not a personal issue”, insisting that the Alternate Minister must leave the government similar to how Dimitris Sgouridis and Dimitris Kammenos had to leave.
