A primary school teacher in Rethymno, Crete has been accused of striking one of her students with a book. After the alleged incident the student was taken to the local hospital, where doctors confirmed that he child had suffered a blow to the head and bruising. The teacher has denied the incident.

The local director of primary education Stathis Kontogiannis told the Athens-Macedonia News Agency that an inquiry has been launched into the allegations. The mother of the child insists upon her claims and has filed a complaint against the school for attempting to undermine and play down the incident.
