The president of the Independent Greeks and Minister of National Defense Panos Kammenos spoke told journalists that his party will continue to support the government and the Prime Minister, but will only vote for measures that were agreed upon at the recent council meeting of political leaders.

Mr. Kammenos, who made the comments on his way out of his party’s Parliamentary Group meeting, stressed that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was “blackmailed into reaching an agreement” and that “the creditors want to overthrow the government”. Mr. Kammenos claimed that the agreement reached in Brussels was a “coup”.

During the meeting with his party MPs, Mr. Kammenos pledged his support to the Prime Minister, but did not clarify his party’s next moves. He argued that the agreement reached bears no resemblance to what was agreed at the recent council meeting of political leaders and rejected the possibility of participating in a “so-called national purpose” government.
