The Alternate Minister of Health Andreas Xanthos has issued a circular regarding the extension of the term of trainee doctors in Greek hospitals, in order to address staffing problems.

According to the circular, trained doctors will have the opportunity to extend their term in their hospital, provided their post remains vacant. This will also apply for doctors who have completed specialization or their contracts have ended.

Trainee doctors who chose to extend their term will remain at their post with the same wages, until a contract is signed with a doctor who will cover that post. As such, the Ministry aims to continue provided uninterrupted healthcare services, while addressing staffing issues.
