All five defendants in the bribing case for the Russian TOR-M1 anti-missile systems were found guilty by the Greek Felony Court.

Former Cypriot Interior Minister Dinos Michailidis, his son Michalis Michailidis, former legal State adviser Anastasios Sofos, his wife Maria, and arms dealer Fouad alZayat.

The Court president stressed they are being convicted because they have committed all the acts attributed to them (corruption, money laundering), making it clear to the defense counsel that her decision is not the same with the prosecutor’s.

The public prosecutor had taken a different stance only in the case of Michalis Michailidis, suggesting he be found guilty of certain, rather than all the acts he was accused of.

The current phase of the trial includes the speeches by the defense attorneys for mitigating circumstances.

Specifically:
Dinos Michailidis: 15 years for money laundering
Michalis Michailidis: 15 years for money laundering
Anastasios Sofos: life imprisonment for passive bribery and 12 years for money laundering
Maria Sofos: 12 years for money laundering
Fouad al-Zayat: life imprisonment for active bribery and 17 years for money laundering.
