The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is scheduled to visit Baku today, the capital of Azerbaijan, where he was invited to attend the 20th anniversary celebrations for the Shah Deniz gas fields.

On his trip Mr. Samaras will be accompanied by the Minister of Environment Yannis Maniatis and government spokeswoman Sofia Voultepsi. Also attending the celebrations will be the Prime Ministers of Turkey, Bulgaria, Albania, Georgia and Montenegro, along with ministers from the UK, Croatia and Italy.

Greece will be connected to the Shah Deniz natural gas fields via the TAP pipeline, which will transfer Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe via Greece, Albania and Italy. Meanwhile, the environmental survey on the impact of the TAP pipeline in Greece has been approved, meaning that the negotiations for the sale of DESFA to the state Azerbaijani company will continue.
