The Deputy Minister of Growth Gerasimos Giakoumatos has arranged a series of meetings with representatives from the dairy and super market industries next week, in order to discuss the possibility of reducing the price of milk.

The reduction of the price of milk is high up on the Growth Ministry’s agenda, since previous efforts to reform the sale of milk have not proved effective. The Deputy Minister is believed to have initiated contacts earlier in July.

Mr. Giakoumatos is likely to pressure the dairy and super market representatives that unless they reduce prices, the government will act upon the troika’s mandate to intervene. The bailout plan provides that should the currently imposed measures prove ineffective, then new legislative regulations must be implemented to reduce prices.

The dairy industry has stressed though that there is a limited possibility of cutting prices.
