The Police’s Internal Affairs Directorate announced that is has resolved 179 cases of illegal pensions, which cost the Greeks state an estimated 12.86 million euros.
According to the announcement, these cases of fraud were committed between 1991 and 2012 and in 92 cases the pensions were deposited in joint accounts. The investigations were prompted by documentation provided by the Deputy Minister of Finances and the Prosecutor for Financial Crime.
The case file has been submitted to the Public Prosecutor of Athens, with forty three other cases handled by local prosecutors.
