The president of the Union of Hellenic Chambers (UHC) Konstantinos Mihalos has proposed the creation of an import-export growth bank which will support and encourage exports, based on similar banking ventures abroad.

According to Mr. Mihalos, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Greece have the highest loan application rejection rates in the Eurozone, while the loan costs for business loans of less than 1 million euros is up to three times higher than similar loans available in France, Belgium and Austria.

Mr. Mihalos, who made the proposal at his appearance at the “Made in Greece” product and services exhibition, claimed that this import-export growth bank would enjoy certain tax benefits in order to encourage export activities.
