The federation of administrative employees of universities affected by the government’s suspension plan has announced its intention to extend its strike for the eighth week in a row.
According to the federation’s announcement, the strike will continue until Friday, the 1st of November. Of the 1,968 administrative employees who are to enter the suspension scheme, 1,700 have registered their details on the Ministry of Education’s website.
While at most universities the new academic year has begun as normal, students at the University of Athens and the National Technical School of Athens risk missing the semester, since all administrative and educational activities have been suspended as a result of the strike.
The federation noted in its announcement that “just like we stalled the Ministry of Education’s first plan for dismissals and suspensions, we can similarly stall the new plan and ultimately cancel the relevant ministerial decision”.
