The recent dramatic developments with Golden Dawn are an opportunity for the restructure and democratization of the Hellenic Police, according to Opposition leader Alexis Tsipras, who met with representatives of the nationwide federation of Police officers (POASY).

Mr. Tsipras explained that while he believes that only a small minority of police officers supported the criminal activities of Golden Dawn and that the initiative to cleanse the Police force from such elements must primarily be an issue of honor.

The president of POASY Christos Fotopoulos responded that sweeping generalizations are not helpful and that while a number of important financial, training, selection and promotion issues must be addressed, M the political parties must support the institution of the police, in order to overcome the association with Golden Dawn.
