The Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras gave a televised interview to the Bloomberg news agency, where he explained that the government’s main priority is the primary surplus.

Mr. Stournaras also explained that “there is no ‘plan B’, everything has been agreed with the euro group” and that the cooperation to cover the financing gap with the troika is excellent.

The Minister also said the country is fully covered “up to August 2014” and “for the remaining period the understanding is that if Greece satisfies all the preconditions then our partners will agree to cover the financing gap”.

While a lot has been said about the influence exerted in the EU and Eurozone by Germany, the upcoming German elections are of no concern to the Greek government.

Mr. Stournaras spoke of the impressive improvement in public finances, which he claimed has been noted by the international markets. The Minister also admitted that “further austerity is not a solution” and ruled out the possibility of further measures, in favor of improving tax collection mechanisms.
