The 24-hour general strike has begun, with GSEE and ADEDY calling workers to attend the 11am rally at Pedion Areos Square. Journalists were on strike on Tuesday. Buses will be available between 9am and 9pm, while trains and suburban rail services will be unavailable all day.
Local government employees will also be on strike, following a decision by POE-OTA. Likewise, employees in tax services will also be on strike.
The nationwide teaching federations have also announced the participation of school teachers and university professors to the strike.
Doctors in public and private hospitals and clinics will be on strike, as decided by the Panhellenic Medical Association and the Federation of Hospital Doctor Unions.
The Athens Bar Association also decided to participate in the strike.
Also on strike are mechanics, builders, maritime workers and DEI employees.
The basic demands are the signing of Collective Labor Agreements, combating unemployment, recalling the mobilization of subway and maritime workers and to end the “brutal infringement of fundamental labor rights”.
