The Minister of Finances Euclid Tsakalotos underlined the need for ratifying the bailout agreement in Athens in order to secure an agreement at Friday’s Eurogroup, so that Greece may avoid taking out a new bridge loan.
Mr. Tsakalotos, who addressed the committees examining the bailout agreement prior to Thursday evening’s critical vote, stressed the urgency of ratifying the agreement in Athens, as other European parliaments will also have to decide whether to offer further aid to Greece.
“We had a mandate from Parliament to negotiate a new deal. We did our dury and I think that irrespective of one’s position, there can be nobody who supports a bridge [loan]” he stated and explained that “if there is no agreement at the Eurogroup […] we will go for a bridge loan”.
