The president of New Democracy Antonis Samaras addressed his party’s parliamentary group at noon, after the swearing-in ceremony, where he argued that the country’s interests are the party’s highest priority.

Mr. Samaras explained that as the main opposition party he intends to «support what is right and criticize what is wrong”, adding that “a responsible opposition is not weakness, but strength”.

He added that “whoever is based on fireworks to rise to power ultimately regrets it” and noted that the era where populism dominated and “allowed one to fool an entire people is over”.

The New Democracy leader concluded his speech by stressing that his party “received chaos and handed over a country”.
