The main opposition party SYRIZA announced that it will hold an event on Wednesday about the controversial draft bill relating to the shoreline, with party leader Alexis Tsipras scheduled to deliver a speech against government plans.

SYRIZA MEP Dimitris Papadimoulis spoke to Vima 99.5 FM on Monday and dubbed the draft proposal “a catastrophic bill, which government majority MPs have stated they will not support” and stressed that the bill will cause great harm to the environmental sustainability and the seas.

The event will also aims to pressure Stavros Theodorakis in publicizing his standpoint on the matter, as an estimated 7% of SYRIZA voters appear to be considering vote for the newly-formed River party. Additionally though, the event will be an opportunity for SYRIZA to invite DIMAR officers to participate, in an effort to develop a greater opposition front.

This development has displeased PASOK, which recently entered talks with DIMAR in hopes of rebuilding a center left faction. The coalition government partner’s spokesman Dimitris Karydis appeared on SKAI and demanded that DIMAR clarifies its position.
