The ERT crisis has turned out to be an opportunity for the three government partners to examine the problems in the government’s operation and their cooperation. The government crisis, as well as the trust crisis – caused by the ERT shutdown was the necessary catalyst to get them all around a table to talk about the necessity of a common path so that the tripartite government does not collapse, leading the country into another electoral adventure.
Despite the differences, despite the objective difficulties in running a coalition government, it is absolutely necessary that a new framework of cooperation is set up. Without hegemonic attitudes, personal vendettas and petty politics, the three leaders must have a cooperative attitude to openly discuss the problems in order to find a new direction for the country. While the first, faint signs of the economy stabilizing are appearing, when almost all our partners recognize the efforts and sacrifices of the Greek people, it is insane to sabotage the effort. Last year’s elections must be a lesson to everyone.
The country needs stability and reliability to finally get out of this rut. Let the ERT debacle be the opportunity to set aside petty competition. The different interpretations of the Council of State’s decision must not perpetuate the crisis. The leaders are obligated to div this problem out with understanding and consent. It is unthinkable to extend the crisis over this matter and jeopardize the government and country’s stability.
