Keratsini: Municipal employees take over water company

The employees and board of directors of the Municipality Keratsini-Drapetsona has taken over the facilities of EYDAP, the water company. The takeover was in response to the water company’s decision to seize the municipality’s bank account due to debts, which in turn has left employees without pay for two months.

The employees, board members and local citizens took over EYDAP’s facilities in Agrokeramo and are expected to proceed with similar action on Monday, outside EYDAP’s offices in Galatsi.

EYDAP claims that the municipality has amassed debts of 3.4 million euros, including 443,797 euros for water consumption in 2012. The water company also reacts to the municipality’s decision to incur a tax on water pipes, despite the court case expected to be resolved on the 17^th of May.

The municipality claims that the Administrative Appeal Court enforced the 40% water pipe tax until the case is resolved in court. In any case, the water supply to nurseries, old people homes, schools and elsewhere where it was cut last week has been restored
