In an interview with the BBC, SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras has characterized the Samaras administration “the most right-wing and extreme” since the political changeover, due to a strategy “of blackmail, terrorism and tensions”.

Mr. Tsipras then accused the government of “attempting to create an agenda of escalating political conflict, in order to create a sense of fear in Greek society”. This practice, Mr. Tsipras explained, aims at rallying the most conservative elements of Greek society, as a basis for government policies.

When asked about the Opposition’s stance towards Golden Dawn and armed anarchist groups, Mr. Tsipras replied that “the law will be applied absolutely, with no tolerance towards the Golden Dawn gang, but groups breaking the law and defining themselves as anarchists will also face legal consequences”. Mr. Tsipras also added that he would “uproot the Golden Dawn cells that exist in the police and public administration”.
