Prime Alexis Tsipras asked for UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres’ intercession to free two army officers captured by Turkish troops, in a telephone contact today.
Broader geopolitical developments, Greek-Turkish ties, and negotiations on the FYROM naming issue were also discussed.
The prime minister asked that the UN convey to the Turkish side the message on the need to have a swift, positive outcome in the case, with the freeing and return of the two Greek army officers.
Guterres and Tsipras specifically discussed Turkey’s hostile actions in the Aegean and Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
