With only six days left for about 2,500,000 taxpayers to submit their tax returns, the Ministry of Finances is fearing the worse, as it appears that a deadline extension would not necessarily solve the problems.
According to accountants, the self-employed and rentiers will see their taxation go up from last year, with those on low or medium incomes suffering the most. On the contrary, employees and pensioners will see their taxes remain more or less the same.
The Ministry estimates that many taxpayers may be hesitant to submit their tax returns as they might be under the impression that if they delay submission, then the deadlines for payment will also be postponed. However, the Ministry has set July 1st as the date when the first payment must be made.
In an effort to convince taxpayers to submit their tax returns, the Finance Ministry announced that the social dividend and family benefits may be at risk.
