After some time, the Greek football team gave a convincing performance and managed to defeat the Dutch national team 2-1 in a Thursday-evening international friendly in Eindhoen’s Philips Stadion. The Thursday-evening win was the first for Greece against the Netherlands.

Although Greece was trailing after Georginio Wijnaldum (14’) gave the Netherlands an early lead, the Greek side managed to take control of the match and striker Kostas Mitroglou (29’) leveled the match. Despite the many substitutions in the second half, the Greek side managed to score a second goal with Yannis Gianniotas (74’), stunning the Dutch fans.

Greece’s coach Michael Skibbe started the match with Orestis Karnezis, Socrates Papastathopoulos, Kostas Manolas, Giorgos Tzavellas, Vasilis Torosidis, Andreas Samaris, Yannis Maniatis, Petros Mantalos, Kostas Fortounis, Jose Holebas and Kostas Mitroglou. In the second half Stefanos Kapino, Kyriakos Papadoupoulos, Tasos Bakasetas, Nikos Karellis, Yannis Gianniotas and Kostas Stafylidis were substituted in.

The next international friendly for Greece is against Gibraltar on Tuesday 6 September.
