Six Afghans aged 15 to 17 attempted to travel from Athens to Slovenia by hiding in a refrigerator truck, after paying 1,800 euros each to a human trafficker.

According to the police, the six Afghans began their journey 20 days ago in Athens. From there they were transported to Patra and later Manolada. There, they were hidden in a special crypt in a refrigerator truck, which was to travel to Italy via Igoumenitsa, before heading to Slovenia.

During the trip to the port of Igoumenitsa the six Afghans began shouting and banging on the crypt walls, fearing that they would freeze to death. Upon hearing the noises the driver pulled over and contacted the Police.

The six Afghans and the truck driver have been taken to the police department in Mesologi for further questioning, in an effort to identify and apprehend the human traffickers.
