The security measures and protection of many important buildings and facilities in Greece are being reviewed and increased by the Police, at the recommendation of the European Union. Fearing the possibility of an armed attack, security will be increased at critical government buildings and infrastructure, such as airports, hotels, power plants, ports and even the road network.,

More than 50 official bodies will participate in the counter-terrorism planning, including the Hellenic Police, the National Intelligence Agency (EYP), the General Staff of National Defense (HNDGS), the Civil Aviation Authority (YPA), the regulatory authority for energy (RAE) and more.

The security project is funded by the EU’s Internal Security Fund, the purpose of which is tackling crime and managing risks. The fund aims to enhance the capacity of EU States and the Union for managing effectively security-related risk and crisis, and prepare for protecting people and critical infrastructure against terrorist attacks and other security related incidents.
