A group of German tourists was assaulted in Monastiraki on Thursday evening, with four being injured lightly and one being remaining in the hospital with more serious injuries. The 12 Germans were eating a restaurant, when a group of about 20-25 people with their faces covered approached them and asked them if they were fascists.

Witness reports suggest that the German tourists were in fact neo-Nazis invited by the local neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn to participate in its celebrations for the Imia anniversary on Saturday. Other witnesses suggest that the victims may have been tourists mistaken for a far-right group. A post on Athens.Indymedia.org confirms that a group of anarchists carried out the attack.

The police launched an investigation in the area of Psyrri following the attack, but has so far failed to come up with any results.
