In an open letter addressed to the other political leaders in Parliament, PASOK president Fofi Gennimata has called for an inquiry committee to be formed in order to investigate and examine the course of the Greek economy.

According to Mrs. Gennimata’s statement, this committee would specifically examine the period since Greece entered the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), in order to determine the causes of the financial crisis.

In her statement, the PASOK leader underlined that recent allegations made by the Governor of the Bank of Greece Yannis Stournaras and the former Minister of Finances Yanis Varoufakis make the formation of such an inquiry imperative and called for support from the other parties.

New Democracy also rumored to call for an inquiry

The main opposition party New Democracy is also rumored to be preparing its application for an inquiry to be launched into the recent allegations of Mr. Varoufakis, as well as the plans for a parallel currency. To Vima has been informed that all that remains is for party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis to approve the motion and to seek out support from other parties.
