With the general elections about 25 days away, the main opposition party New Democracy is making preparations to its ambitious campaign, with provisional leader Evangelos Meimarakis arguing that his party can come first.

Although Mr. Meimarakis appears confident that his party is in the position to overturn the current political correlations, his party officers appear more reserved in their estimations. Nevertheless recent polls show that Mr. Meimarakis is approaching SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras in popularity.

The New Democracy leader will begin his election campaign tour on Friday, when he will tour in Viotia and Evia, while giving a speech in Halkida in the evening. This “return” to tried and tested campaign was decided in order to galvanize party support. Mr. Meimarakis is also looking forward to a debate with Mr. Tsipras, where is convinced he will prevail.
