The Vice President of Parliament and SYRIZA MP Alexis Mitropoulos announced that he intends to give the government a vote of confidence, but warned that he will not vote for measures that burden the Greek people.

Mr. Mitropoulos, who appeared on Mega Channel on Wednesday morning, spoke of “failed negotiations” and explained that “we do not have the right to cause further harm to the country”, meaning that he will not vote for further wage and pension cuts. Nevertheless, he noted that the government should receive a vote of confidence, if requested, as it may be able to achieve better results at a later point.

Since the third bailout agreement was approved by the Greek Parliament, with the support of the opposition parties, the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has no other option other than to “be dragged into an alliance” with those very same parties. The PM’s dilemma at present, he added, was to either form a “pro-bailout government based around SYRIZA” or call early elections.

The SYRIZA MP however insisted that there was no need for early general elections or even a party conference, as it will only confirm the transformation of SYRIZA and adoption of a neoliberal policy.
