The President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos received New Democracy’s provisional president Evangelos Meimarakis on Thursday morning and discussed the latest developments in the negotiations.
Mr. Meimarakis argued that the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras must say a “big Yes” so that Greece may remain within the Eurozone and stressed the need for unity on such subjects. The ND leader added that he will support an agreement with the country’s international creditors to ensure that Greece remains within the single currency zone.
Furthermore, Mr. Meimarakis asked for the political leaders to be updated in a meeting under President Pavlopoulos or for the Prime Minister to update the political leaders himself.
President Pavlopoulos on his behalf commented that it was “important” that everyone remained untied during these critical moments and underlined the importance of the council meeting of political leaders. The President also repeated that “there is no intention or even consideration for a departure from the euro”.
