The Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stressed that he is working towards an agreement with the creditors that will put Greece back on the path for growth, following his two-hour meeting with European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday.
Mr. Tsipras further explained that the aim is to bridge the remaining differences, particularly the financial and budgetary concerns, in order to provide a solution that will secure social cohesion and a sustainable debt. The two agreed to remain in contact, in an effort to come to a mutually-accepted agreement over the next few days.
On Friday Mr. Juncker clarified that the negotiations between Greece and its creditors will resume at first on a technical level, before progressing to political discussions. According to a Reuters report, the European Commission president noted that an agreement with Greece over the next few days is necessary and noted that the ball is now in Greece’s court.
Prior to Thursday’s two-hour meeting, the president of the European Council Donald Tusk commented that there was no more time left and that the negotiations must soon conclude so that there can been an agreement. Mr. Tusk set a new deadline
