A European official in Brussels told To Vima on Tuesday morning, a few hours after the meeting in Berlin, that significant progress had take place in the negotiations between Greece and its creditors.

When asked whether a rumored proposal would be submitted any time soon, the European official responded that the International Monetary Fund must first agree.

The latest reports suggest that the institutions are preparing a technical agreement, based on a draft by the European Commission, in an effort to overcome the impasse in negotiations.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande appear to have disagreed with IMF director Christine Lagarde on certain aspects of the proposal, primarily with regards to the budget deficit and debt management.

At midday on Tuesday, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras threw the ball in the institutions’ court, claiming that the Greek government submitted a “realistic plan” on Monday evening.
