The district governors of the North and South Aegean have approved an incentive plan in order cover vacant doctor positions in remote areas and islands.

According to the proposal submitted by the District Governor of Northern Aegean Christiana Kalogirou, doctors will be offered free food and shelter, worth about 500 euros per month.

Mrs. Kalogirou explained that the goal of the incentives is to attract doctors in order to provide adequate healthcare services to islanders in remote areas.

At present the medical centers on the islands of Sigrio, Thymena, Psara and Amani on Chios remain without doctors, despite repeat efforts and vacancy notices.
