Even though the Ministry of Finances has not yet submitted its ambitious and controversial tax bill for discussion in Parliament, it has already announced a number of changes, in response to public outcry on the extent of taxation. The Ministry announced that it will not tax storage on agricultural land, such as warehouses for machines, greenhouses and stockyards.

Earlier in the day, 24 New Democracy MPs, with the MP from Pella Ioardanis Tzamtzis in charge, posed a question to the Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras in Parliament about what he plans to do so that “our farmers are not burdened with unbearable and unjust taxation” and specifically his plans for “abandoned and unused land that does not provide any revenue for their owners”.

According to the previous plan, the presence of a building on agricultural land could multiply the tax on the land by up to five times in certain cases, revealing the inherent imbalances and injustices in the bill.
