During a routine check at a Romani gypsy camp at Farsala, near Larissa that resulted in the discovery of weapons and narcotics, the police found a blond, blue-eyed four-year-old girl.

The police suspected that the child might have been abducted from its natural parents and detained the couple who claimed to be the girl’s parents. The mother later admitted that the 4-year-old girl had been adopted, but was unable to provide any further explanations. Both parents have been charged with unlawful retention.

The child was taken to the local hospital for a DNA test, where it was confirmed that she is not related to the Romani couple. The police have contacted social services and are reexamining reported kidnap cases as far back as 2009 in hopes of discovering who the child’s natural parents are.
