It is no coincidence that with their interventions last night, the Prime Minister and the government’s Vice President, expressed their worry about the climate against Greece, which is fueled by comments and interventions of European officials. Mr. Samaras noted that Greece expects more solidarity from its partners, while Mr. Venizelos observed that there is a recycling of problems and questions that disregard the Greek people’s sacrifices and efforts.
Before any troika review, we have come to expect a series of interventions that charge the climate and create conditions of constant pressure on the Greek side. Just looking at the latest comments of Mr. Olli Rehn, who discovered that it is a challenge to analyze the fiscal and funding issues of Greece, insinuating that the troika needs more time to complete its review.
Earlier, Mr. Asmussen addressed the government to do what it must in order to complete the troika review that has stalled. They are the same people who were pleasantly discovering that Greece have exceeded expectations and achieved a primary surplus this year.
Nobody is arguing that there aren’t any problems and delays. But it would also be insane to ignore the fact that the economy and the people have reached their limits. The constant calls for new measures by the Europeans not only leads nowhere, but it threatens to destabilize the fragile balance in the economy.
Even though they claim that the budget divs for 2013 appear to be satisfactory or even better than expected, they constantly discover problems and predict an ever-increasing budget gap for 2014. They should finally calm down and stop cultivating self-fulfilling prophecies and causing tensions that jeopardize the economy. It is high time they realized that yet another set of measures in another year of recession will not help us or ensure that our creditors get paid.
