Citizens and local organizations will be protesting outside the Mayor’s office in Lasithi, over the proposed merger of the local technical university (TEI) and the hospitals. The protesters will then head to Agios Nikolaos, where the will symbolically take over the Regional Section of Lasithi.
The Agios Nikolaos and Ierapetra TEI departments have been occupied for the past few days, while the municipality of Ierapetra has decided to shut down its offices in solidarity.
The Open Struggle Committee of Ierapetra decided to escalate its actions in light of the contacts between the ministers of Health and Education with the General Secretary of Decentralized Administration of Crete, Mr. Giorgos Diktakis.
The Committee issued a statement arguing that they “will not negotiate any of our claims. We will not negotiate our dignity and lives. We will not negotiate the future of our land and society”.
