The long-running KKE MP and journalist Liana Kanelli was invited on morning talk show “Epta” on state-run television network Net, where she defended her party’s decision to fire a number of employees from its official daily newspaper “Rizospastis”. Mrs. Kanelli explained that “KKE is not the Vatican of urban capitalism and Aleka [Papariga] is not the Pope”.
She admitted that “there is no fair lay off anywhere” and underlined that just like millions of others, the laid off “Rizospastis” journalists are in a tough spot. When asked whether KKE needs to update, Mrs. Kanelli responded that “the party itself requires a renewal of leadership, however change in not a matter of divheads”.
When asked why her party will not cooperate with SYRIZA, Mrs. Kanelli explained that KKE will not adopt a “lesser of two evils” logic.
