In January the tax services collected 280 million euros from the foreclosure of bank accounts, wages, pensions, rents and funds of 5,500 tax payers with outstanding debts towards the State.
This is part of the government’s efforts to collect as much as possible from the estimated 56.6 billion it is owed. The tax services increased their income from foreclosures by 150%, up from 110 million euros in collected last ear. In 2012 2.5 billion euros were collected from outstanding debts, while the goal for 2013 is to collect at least 3 billion euros.
