The police have arrested a 54-year-old man in relation to the arson attack on the gold mine facilities in Skouries. The 54-year-old local resident, was detained with two more suspects who were later set free.
The Minister of Public Order and Citizen Protection Nikos Dendias will be visiting the Polygyros Police Department at 11:30 to be updated on the investigation. So far 33 suspects have been detained for questioning, all of whom have been set free. Dozens of local residents protested in Ierissos over the “random” detainment of suspects.
The laboratory results on the evidence found on the scene will likely give the police some new leads as to the identity of the assailants. Police recovered a slew of evidence, such as bloodstains, fingerprints, cigarette butts and full-face mask.
