The former legal consultant of Mr. Papakonstantinou, Mr. A. Banos, testified yesterday before the parliamentary Commission investigating the “Lagarde List” scandal. Mr. Banos recalled contacting the former Minister of Finances last September, after the scandal broke out.
Mr. Banos explained that the asked Mr. Papakonstantinou to reveal the person who was given the original CD for safekeeping, because “everyone is being targeted”. Mr. Papakonstantinou apparently assured Mr. Banos that he would do so in parliament, which he never did.
The remaining witnesses from the 43 former employees of Mr. Papakonstantinou’s office will be summoned by the committee to answer one question, whether they give the CD for safe-keeping.
