The Panhellenic Seamen Federation (PNO) announced a new 48-hour strike that begins on Saturday. Earlier in the day, PNO representatives were unable to find a solution with the Minister of Shipping Kostis Mousouroulis and general secretary Athanasios Bousios, who remained absolute in their position.
Ministry sources indicate that there was a pleasant atmosphere at the meeting and that the Minister pointed out to the syndicalists the difficult fiscal situation the country and the shipping industry were in and reminded that thanks to his efforts the Troika’s demand for an abolition of collective labor agreements was never materialized. The Minister is to later meet representatives of the Union of Passenger Shipping Companies (SEEN).
The PNO considers the “Reform and other provisions” bill will increase unemployment in their sector and mark the collapse of their insurance funds. The PNO is also asking that collective labor agreements be signs and that the Minister intervenes so that shipping firms pay Greek seamen what they are owed.
