The harsh weather conditions in Northern Greece are creating a lot of problems in transportation, due to frost build-ups on the high way network.
The temperature dropped to -11 degrees in Nevrokopi, -9 in Florina, -7 in Kastoria and Kozani. The temperature at the “Macedonia” airport in Thessaloniki was -5 degrees. Things are not much better the north east of the country, with Kavala reporting temperatures of -3 and Alexandroupoli in Thrace recording -4 degrees this morning.
According to municipal sources, schools in Grevena, Florina and Amyntaio opened later in the day due to the freezing temperatures. Due to frost build-up, drives using the Florina – Kastoria, via Vitsi roads, are required to use snow chains on their vehicles.
