The remains of Greek soldiers who died during a secret mission to support the Greek Cypriot National Guard in 1974 have been identified in Nicosia and are being retuned to Greece.

A special ceremony has been arranged at the military airbase in Dekelia, where the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos will be present. Earlier, the Minister of National Defense Panos Kammenos and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yannis Amanatidis will receive the remains in a ceremony in Larnaca, Cyprus.

The ceremony marks the end of a 42-year mystery, as the Greek commandos were killed when their Noratlas aircraft was shot down by friendly fire. Thirty two people on board the craft were killed, while one managed to survive.
